French shoegaze act SCHØØL emerged from Paris in late 2023 and is set to release their debut album, I Think My Life Has Been OK, on September 5. The band gained immediate recognition with their single "N.S.M.L.Y.D." (short for "Nothing Satisfies Me Like You Do"), which features a catchy ’90s guitar sound with a memorable synth riff. Following this success, they released two more singles, "Gardener" and "The End," all featured on the upcoming album from label Géographie. Comprised of seasoned musicians—vocalist/guitarist Francis Mallari, bassist/vocalist Erica Ashleson, guitarist Jack Moase, and drummer Alex Battez—SCHØØL embodies the dream of creating the band they envisioned as teenagers, influenced by iconic shoegaze acts like Drop Nineteens and Swirlies.
What do you think is the significance of nostalgia in modern music, particularly within genres like shoegaze that draw heavily from past sounds and aesthetics?
