The opening night of Sparks’ “Mad!” North American Tour on September 5th in Atlanta was an exhilarating experience, marked by a revamped seating arrangement for concert-goers. After attending a Pulp concert just the night before, the author and their friends enjoyed a delicious dinner before the show. In an unexpected twist, one friend snagged front-row center tickets shortly before the performance, a significant upgrade that heightened anticipation for the Sparks show.

As audience members entered the venue, they were greeted by a friendly merchandising manager and uncovered exciting new releases, including an EP titled “Madder!”—an unexpected musical treat. The evening featured Sparks performing energetically, with lead singer Russell Mael, now approaching 77, demonstrating impressive vigor while delivering nostalgic hits alongside new material. The band’s ability to blend fresh tracks from their latest album with classics showcased their artistic range and enduring appeal.

The performance culminated in a reflective moment, as the audience reveled in the songs that have shaped Sparks’ legendary status.
