Danish duo Countermarch is set to release their debut album, Skin of Perception, blending ambient, horror, hip-hop, and gothic country sounds into surreal soundscapes. The album showcases their artistic experimentation using sampling and technology to create “small ephemeral bubbles of imperfection” that challenge conventional habits. Featuring contributions from a diverse array of musicians, including trumpet and vocal work from Nina Larsen and pedal steel from Uffe Nørtoft, the album builds on their prior work in the punk genre with Deadpan. Scheduled for digital release on February 7 via Vicious Records, it follows their 2020 EP, The Blues According to Logic. With previews of tracks like “On Tilt” and “Passing By” already available, Countermarch pushes genre boundaries and reinterprets emotional depth through their innovative approach.
What do you think the fusion of various music styles in Skin of Perception reveals about the current landscape of musical creativity and genre fluidity?
