Massachusetts-based new wave and darkwave artist Daniel Ouellette has released a new single titled "Bewitchment (Why Sweep When You Can Fly? Things to Do with a New Broom)." This track reflects on our quest for benevolent and malevolent figures, continuing Ouellette’s multilingual exploration of literary themes. It is an English reworking of the earlier Portuguese song "O Lindo Sonâmbulo" from his 2022 album El Salón. Co-written with Jason Mendelson, who also contributed synthesizers, the single maintains collaborations with Elizabeth Lorrey and Peter Linnane for mixing and mastering. Released on January 26 via Meanie Jeannie Records, the song comes with a video premiere.
Considering Ouellette’s intricate blend of musical styles and literary references, how does his work challenge or redefine the boundaries between genres and mediums, such as music and visual art?
