U.K.-based non-binary artist and composer Agnes Haus is set to release their third album, Inexorable Ascent, on December 5. Crafted during deep night hours, the album employs drone-based electronica to explore themes of existential liminality, rooted in Haus’s experiences of feeling like an outcast amid binary societal pressures. Singles “Faust” and “Persona” invite listeners into this cinematic yet discomforting sonic landscape, influenced by the works of Tarkovsky and Bergman. The release, via Penelope Trappes’ Nite Hive Records, continues Haus’s commitment to experimental music by women and gender-expansive artists.
As we reflect on Haus’s exploration of identity and societal pressures through sound, how do you think the growing visibility of non-binary artists influences perceptions of gender in the music industry?
